Teivo Teivainen

Teivo Teivainen (Finland) is professor of world politics at the Renvall Institute, at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He works as the director of the program on democracy and global transformation at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He is the author of several books related to democratization processes in Latin America and around the world, and has worked as a consultant and chief of mission for various regional, national and international organizations. He was closely involved in the planning of various sessions of the World Social Forum (WSF). Teivainen was the international political economy section chair of the International Studies Association (ISA), and visiting professor of development studies at Saint Mary’s University, Canada, in 2005. In 2005-06 he also chaired Network Institute for Global Democratization, and on behalf of NIGD he is a founding member of the International Council of the World Social Forum. He has been consultant for various international organizations, trade unions, social movements and governments. His recent books include Economism, Exit Politics: Experts, Economic Policy and the Damage to Democracy, which won the Terence K. Hopkins Award of the American Sociological Association (available also in Spanish); Pedagogía del poder mundial.
