Rakesh Rajani (Tanzania) is senior associate at Hivos and the head of Twaweza, an independent East African initiative promoting access to information, citizen agency and public accountability in East Africa.

Rakesh Rajani studied philosophy, English and American literature at Brandeis University, was a fellow of the Harvard Global Equity Initiative, and was the founder and executive director of HakiElimu, an independent civil society organization in Tanzania promoting public engagement in education governance. He has written and/or edited over 300 academic papers, trade publications, and opinion pieces in English and Swahili.
