Samuel P. Oliner wrote in “A portrait of moral courage” that many of the reasons that non-Jews had to rescue Jews where justice and compassion. One of the characteristics that rescuers share, was that they all had parents or role models that where benevolent figures. Rescuers empathize the value of helping diverse others, as well rescuers felt themselves as part of humanity regardless of religion, ethnicity, social status or race. Non rescuers didn’t felt they were exempt of the situation, non rescuers where more concern in their own survival and needs.
